Makerspace Exploration: A Day of Japanese Craft

Saturday, May 02, 2026

10:00 AM - 04:00 PM

Krause Center for Innovation-Makerspace

12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills, CA, USA

Spend a day immersed in the beauty, intention, and quiet joy of Japanese-inspired craft.

This hands-on experience invites you to slow down, explore, and create through a thoughtfully curated series of traditional art forms. From the rhythmic stitching of sashiko to the expressive folds of shibori dyeing, each activity offers a chance to engage your hands while calming your mind.

Throughout the day, you’ll rotate through a variety of creative stations, including:

  • Sashiko stitching (coasters or personal items)
  • Tsumami kanzashi hair clip or pin
  • Shibori silk scarf dyeing
  • Engraved hashi (chopsticks)
  • Mini ikebana flower arrangement

We’ll begin with a grounding tea welcome and light snacks, and pause midday for a 45-minute lunch break (bring your own lunch).

All materials are provided, and no prior experience is needed.

This experience is designed to support relaxation, creative expression, and gentle connection—come as you are and move at your own pace.

Leave with a collection of handmade pieces and a sense of calm you can carry with you.
